Hi! My name is Audri, and I'm an accidental gardener. When my husband and I got married almost 20 years ago, I had never gardened a day in my life. I went into the local garden center looking like what I'm sure a lost puppy looks like. I picked plants that I had seen on the porches of others and flowers that I had never heard of but liked their color. I went home and started planting. That season was a big learning season for me. I learned that you had to make plants happy because when they weren't, they did not hide their feelings! If they didn't have the right kind of soil they didn't grow much; if they didn't have enough water they would shrivel up; if they didn't have any fertilizer they wouldn't bloom as much; if the light wasn't right they also complained. There were many lessons that year, but I decided that I was up for the challenge. Now, many years later, I love gardening and like to share my experiences and advice with others.
I love planting containers because I love the challenge they present. I find the overall planning of the design of a container to be very rewarding when I see it all come together.
I also enjoy planting vegetables because you get to reap the benefits of producing produce.
Right after our third daughter was born, we moved into an older house that had landscaping reminiscent of the 1970's. One morning while sitting on our porch drinking coffee, I told my husband that I could no longer sit out there and look at that awful view. He put down his coffee, walked around to the flower beds, and started ripping out the landscaping. I had no idea that he was going to have that reaction, but I was elated so I got up and helped him rip out I don't know how many plants until they were all sitting on the curb. It felt so great to rip all of that out until we stood and looked at the front of the house with the realization that we had to design new flower beds. I had never done anything to that extreme before, but by the time we were done and had everything planted, it was the biggest gardening accomplishment that we had ever conquered!
